Man Says Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber Saved Him

ABC NEWS/TAMPA – Michael Kirchenstiner is in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber at UCH Carrollwood. He didn’t suffer a diving accident nor is he trying to treat a diabetic wound. He’s trying to heal the internal bleeding that came after radiation treatments for prostate cancer.

Anne-Marie Carroll is his daughter. “The radiation just destroyed the lining of his bladder so when he was going to the bathroom, it was solid blood. He had to go through massive blood transfusions. They didn’t think they were going to save him.”

One of his doctors suggested – as a last resort – hyperbaric oxygen therapy. His wife Ruth was, “willing to try anything if it would help him.”

Michael says, “I’d never heard of it before. It’s something relatively new to me. But the choices I had there was no alternative. I think I’d be dead now if I hadn’t started this.” (To read full article, click here.)

House Passes Rep. Sessions’ Traumatic Brain Injury Treatment Bill Including Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions secured unanimous House approval of his legislation to expedite new and innovative treatments, not currently available within military and veteran medical facilities, to our nations’ veterans and active duty soldiers suffering from Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI). Originally introduced in February as the TBI Treatment Act (H.R. 4568), Sessions’ TBI treatment expansion initiative was adopted as an amendment to the Department of Defense authorization bill.

Under the legislation, physicians may voluntarily treat soldiers and veterans with TBI using any government-approved treatments to stimulate neurons throughout the brain to regain function, including but not limited to Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), flash doses of approved drugs, and small devices that operate like brain pacemakers. Using these and other treatments in the private sector, a multitude of evidence from numerous cases shows substantial progress in brain function and personality in TBI patients, leading to promising treatment options for injured troops. CNN news reported the statistics and importance of early intervention and treatment for diabetic foot ulcers.

“Right now, 18.8 million adults and children in the U.S. have diabetes. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 7 million people have undiagnosed diabetes and 79 million are prediabetic.

Diabetics need to know that treating the ulcer early is the best way to get it healed,” states the news report adding that Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is an effective way to heal ulcers and prevent further tissue breakdown that can end in amputation and even death. The Variety Club of Philadelphia, in conjunction with Sesame Place, are sponsoring a day exclusively for children diagnosed with Autism and their families with special accomodations for the children’s sensory comfort. New Study Finds Hyperbaric Oxygen Increases Drug’s Effectiveness Against Leukemia

Researchers from Washington State University and the University of Washington recently published results in the internationally, peer-reviewed journal Anticancer Research describing the addition of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to the anti-cancer (and anti-malarial) drug, artemisinin, dramatically increasing the drug’s effectiveness.

“In the new study, using artemisinin or high-pressure oxygen alone on a culture of human leukemia cells reduced the cancer cells’ growth by 15 percent. Using them in combination reduced the cells’ growth by 38 percent, a 50 percent increase in artemisinin’s effectiveness,” state the researchers. Encouraging comments also point toward the potential of using the combined treatment to battle breast cancer. To read more, click here.
